Tips for Completing Your Organizer

Organizers will be sent out electronically via SafeSend Organizers in mid to late January. Below are some helpful tips when completing your Organizer.

  • Utilize your Organizer as a Checklist
Your 2023 Organizer provides information reported on your 2022 tax return. Use this as your checklist for what items, at a minimum, are required to prepare your 2023 tax return.
  • Provide New Tax Information
If you have new tax documents for 2023, such as a new job, brokerage account, investment in a business, etc., please add that information on the Organizer and provide a copy of the W2, 1099, K1, etc.
  • Remove Old Tax Information
If items on the Organizers do not apply to any portion of 2023, please let us know so we can remove them. For example, an old job, closed bank/brokerage accounts, etc.
  • What to Enter on the Organizer
You do not need to enter amounts in the Organizer when providing us with copies of the tax documents.  We refer directly to the tax document when preparing your return. Only provide figures in the Organizer when there is no other documentation provided.
  • Filling out the Questionnaire – Newly Condensed
Please answer the questionnaire as best you can. It provides a useful guide to your preparer on anything new to look for when preparing your return.

Prevent Delays in Return Preparation

  • Provide Estimates Paid
Complete all Federal, State, and local tax estimates paid on the Organizer. Include both the amount and date of payment. Information on the Organizer is only what was scheduled, and we need to verify the amounts actually paid for the 2023 tax year.
  • Childcare Expenses
If you have childcare expenses, please provide the name, address, the EIN and amount paid for each organization.
  • Health Saving Account
If you took distribution from your HSA account in 2023, the HSA provider issues a Form 1099-HSA. Check your HSA account in January for this document.
  • Digital Assets/FBAR
If you have had any digital currency or assets in 2023 or any foreign bank accounts in your name, please let us know. It is an IRS requirement for us to confirm and report this information every year.
  • Energy Credits
If you purchased anything in 2023 that you think may qualify for the energy efficient credit, please provide us a description of what it was and the total project cost. If you bought an electric car, please provide the make, model, date purchased, and VIN.
  • Donations
Receipts for charitable gifts are not needed. Provide a total of donations and a total of non-cash donations. Please keep the receipts for your files. If you made larger gifts of stock, art, or other appreciated property in 2023 please note in your Organizer.
